Virtools™ launches Virtools™ Physics Pack for Dev 2.0, with integrated rigid body physics powered by Havok

Virtools and Havok have teamed up to provide the ultimate tool for game-like interactivity on the web.

Virtools today announced the availability of the Virtools™ Physics Pack for Dev 2.0, with integrated rigid body physics powered by Havok. Building on Virtools Dev 2.0 with Havok's real-time physics engine, this integrated solution brings the latest developments in games physics to the web, and makes them accessible to designers with no C++ knowledge.

With the Virtools Physics Pack, Dev 2.0 users will now be able to add physics to their interactive applications as easily as they add other behaviors to objects - with a simple drag-and-drop.

"We are delighted to further enhance the power of Dev 2.0 with high-level physics behaviors, and look forward to seeing what our users will be able to create with this new technology. The addition of physics to Virtools Dev 2.0 reinforces our vision of 'game like interactivity,' that is the advanced level of interactivity we can power for games as well as e-marketing and e-learning applications," said Bertrand Duplat, Chairman and CTO of Virtools.

Based on the Havok game technology available for the PC, PS2 and Xbox, this real-time physics behavior pack features rigid body collision detection and state-of-the-art constraints. Vehicle dynamics and ragdoll effects are built in and ready to use. This new collection of behaviors demonstrates the versatility and openness of Virtools' technology, showing how the most advanced run-time components - like Havok physics technology - can be smoothly integrated into the Virtools framework, to give developers a single unified user interface to access multiple technologies.

"In utilizing the Havok physics powerpack, developers will be able to easily deliver a whole new level of interaction online. Things on screen will behave real to life and without having to download all the behaviors. Friction and gravity acting on all sorts of rigid bodies will now be automatic and available with an immediate preview facility as you develop, we know that's going to make developers lives a lot easier. We have worked closely with Virtools to provide an accessible solution that will allow highly realistic interaction and more engaging content online," said Hugh Reynolds, CEO of Havok.

Available for purchase from Virtools, the Virtools Physics Pack is sold as a separate add-on to Virtools Dev 2.0 for $5,000 (5,000 EUROS in Europe).

About Virtools™

Founded in 1993, Virtools™ enables Global 2000 companies and their integrators, as well as game studios, to develop and deploy 3D applications with game-like interactivity. Costs and timeframes are kept under control through a scalable set of software and server-based solutions that reduce the risks associated with developing interactive applications.

Intel and France Telecom are among the growing number companies that have benefited from Virtools technology. Using Virtools, clients reduce development costs and increase interactivity. Virtools software is used by online and offline game development studios such as: Disney Imagineering, Havas Interactive, Acclaim, Microïds, and Terratools.

About Havok

Havok develops and markets real-time physics software for digital entertainment and web-based applications. Havok's engine is used by some of the world's leading media companies to create online content, Interactive entertainment (Universal Studios, Valve LLC), and movies (Blur Studios).

Havok technology is the most powerful real time physical simulation solution worldwide. It offers integrated rigid body, soft body, fluid, cloth, aerodynamics and particle dynamics across all consumer level hardware platforms including PC, Mac, Linux, PS2 and the upcoming X-box.
