Sarbakan and Virtools are proud to announce the release of Obscura - The Shadow Blade

Montreal, October 27, 2005 - Sarbakan, a Canadian digital creation studio with 70 full time employees, just released their latest original 3D creation using Virtools, Obscura – The Shadow Blade.

Sarbakan became one of the first Virtools Authorized Game Developers at the 2005 Game Developers Conference (GDC). While previously working with other game engines, they decided to implement Virtools middleware into their game development cycle in mid-2004. The main reason for the change was to deliver high-end 3D game experiences for a fraction of the cost of traditional game development, without concessions to gameplay quality and graphics. With both offline and online delivery options, Sarbakan has already successfully completed the development of several downloadable games for major US accounts with Virtools technology.

Sarbakan is currently developing more than five titles using Virtools middleware. Obscura – The Shadow Blade, an original IP from Sarbakan, is the latest interactive product developed using Virtools.

"We are favourably impressed with the Virtools middleware, said Sarbakan's CEO Guy Boucher. It allows our technical and artistic teams to work in smaller and more efficient units to quickly deliver high-quality 3D products. It is a technically advanced and cost-effective 3D game development solution. We are looking forward to the synergies and additional resources to be provided by the recent acquisition by Dassault Systèmes".

"Sarbakan is the perfect example of who should use Virtools: small and medium-sized highly talented studios whose key motivation is to deliver great gameplay and visuals within a short production cycle, added Virgile Delporte, Vice President of Sales and Managing Director of Virtools Canada Inc. Big players of the industry can afford to spend years on a big-budgeted and risky multi-million dollar project. Small studios using Virtools can reduce their risks by dramatically speeding up the prototyping and development process, therefore increasing their ROI, concluded Mr Delporte.
