Back from SIGGRAPH 2008

SIGGRAPH 2008 has been a great occasion for visitors to discover all the 3DVIA software solutions:

  • 3DVIA Virtools, a comprehensive interactive 3D development environment with deployment solutions tailored to business needs;
  • 3DVIA MP, a premiere development authoring platform for high-quality 3D game production;
  • 3DVIA Shape, the free online 3D modeling application that allows any user to create 3D models and publish them directly to 3DVIA.com
  • 3DVIA.com, a community Web site for 3D enthusiasts and digital content creators, designed to host and showcase new 3D content and innovative 3D experiences, and to encourage the exchange of ideas.

Besides showing off our applications to create and share 3D content, visitors had a chance to discover the latest demonstrations of 3DVIA Virtools with the Nintendo Wii™.

We would also like to thank all the participants of the 3DVIA Challenge: this virtual reality contest game showcasing the integration of 3DVIA Virtools with Softkinetic's 3D gesture recognition software. The contest provided players with an immersive and intuitive gameplay experience; congratulations to the 3 winners of the Nintendo Wii™!

With 3DVIA Virtools, the possibilities of 3D are pushed even further. Virtools customers include some of the most recognized names in electronic entertainment, desktop software and retail, and join thousands of customers worldwide that use the 3DVIA Virtools platform:

  • Frima Studio: a Quebec-based developer of massively multiplayer online games (MMOG), is using 3DVIA Virtools to develop multiple online and offline games, including a new title for the PC and Nintendo Wii, to be published by Zoo Digital in Q4 2008. It will be the first game developed for the Nintendo Wii using 3DVIA Virtools.
  • IncrediMail (NASDAQ: MAIL): a global leader in email solutions, provides users with a more personalized and exciting e-mail experience. IncrediMail utilized 3DVIA Virtools to create their recently-launched PhotoJoy application. PhotoJoy allows users to integrate their personal photos into 3D PhotoToy Widgets, screensavers, and wallpaper collages.
  • Lumec: one of Canada’s top manufacturers of decorative and functional outdoor lighting products, created Lumec 3D, a highly-interactive, personalized online store that allows customers to self-configure and create their Lumec products online.

Studio Walljump uses 3DVIA Virtools to build their first WiiWare game

Studio Walljump is a new, independent game studio founded by a former Nintendo artist and licensed for development on the Nintendo Wii console. The studio has chosen 3DVIA Virtools technology to develop its first Wii downloadable game, Liight.

3D Virtual races gain ground in schools!

In Washington D.C. (US), Jeff Kelsey, engineering professor at the McKinley Technology High School, taught his students Virtools programming by organizing 3D virtual races. Every student was able to create his avatar in 3D and to make it run with a Virtools program customized by students and connected with a physical bicycle. By associating the programmed Virtools block with a true bicycle, every participant could advance live his avatar according to the speed of of the physical pedaling to reach the best score. The display of avatars and their distance-based performances created a competitive learning environment that increased student interest and facilitated the acquisition 3DVIA technology. As for the professor, he managed to make more than 60 public school pupils participate in the Virtools applications initiation and concretely showed that it was possible to learn by playing.
