AEI Digital produces cutting-edge computer-generated visuals for a wide range of uses. Applications include 3D modeling and animating, high-resolution stills, interactive multimedia, immersive simulations, and fl y-throughs. Sports and entertainment, healthcare, and architecture and engineering are some of the markets that benefi t from visualization and simulation services offered by AEI Digital.

The Application

The application is an Interactive 3D Simulator that puts the sales representatives and the client into an interactive, digital prototype of an operating room. This stand-alone application was designed to be loaded onto the laptops of each member of Getinge’s global sales force.
The intuitive, easy-to use, drag-and-drop interface consists of a main view window where a 3D, computer-generated virtual OR can be rotated, zoomed, and looked at from any position or angle. A variety of pre-defi ned room confi gurations are available, with typical equipment placements. A single mouse-click on a popup, graphical menu will load any one of a number of standard operating room layouts. Custom designs can be built using one of the typicals as a starting point, or from scratch, by dragging
and dropping 3D models of the individual pieces of equipment into the room model in the view window.

The Challenge

AEI Digital needed a new tool to streamline the design and specification process for Getinge’s line of operating-room equipment: Getinge’s world-wide sales force had, for many years, relied on miniature, wooden scale models of operating rooms to communicate to clients the details of proposed designs and fi t-outs. These “desktop” operating rooms included scale models of the various products - the lights, equipment booms, tables and other components of a modern operating room - all of which could be arranged and rearranged like doll-house furniture during sales calls at the client’s location. Hospital administrators, heads of surgery, and other decision-makers were able to easily understand the various design options, but Getinge needed to optimise the process while keeping it understanding.

The Solution

Interactivity is at the heart of Virtools software solutions. This new presentation sales tool needed to be interactive, instinctive to use and engage the viewer in a comprehensive visual experience. Virtools Dev power and fl exibility allowed AEI Digital to work easily in a streamlined process with the client.

Finally, Virtools was used as the primary interactive software for its quick learning curve and user friendliness while achieving the two main goals: powerful realistic vizualisation and high interactivity.
