Sapiens: An Online 3D Multiplayer Role-Playing Game

Developed by LVL*Studios, member of the Virtools Authorized Game Developers Program, Sapiens is a persistent online 3D multiplayer role-playing game based on the popular TV documentary Homo Sapiens, which explores various aspects of human evolution.

Using Virtools Dev 3.5 and Virtools Server, LVL*Studios succeeded in developing an online multiplayer game in six months with a work team composed by 2 persons (characters and animations were realized by Darwin, a company based in Montreal.) Virtools Server accelerated the integration of 3D assets for a streamlined production process and a compelling multiplayer game environment.

The online game Sapiens, published by Pixcom, introduces players to different prehistoric periods and gives them a chance to live virtual lives based on documented Homo Sapiens customs and techniques.

Part role-playing game, part action and strategy game, Sapiens aims to teach players about the values of respect among members of a community through a range of educational games.

In the Sapiens world, the player's goal is to gain the respect of other members of his or her clan and thus be inscribed in the Sanctuary of the Ancestors. Players can gain spiritual and energy points by participating in a range of activities such as hunting, gathering and meeting with the shaman.
