Bratz™
DC Studios for Ubi Soft Entertainment
Since its inception, DC
Studios has produced over 20 titles across all formats including
NBA JAM, Salt Lake 2002, Taxi 2, Army Men Advance, and
Mia Hamm Soccer 64 for companies such as Ubi Soft, Southpeak,
Acclaim, Jakks Pacific, Inc., Mattel and 3DO. In September 2000, the
Glasgow-based company opened its second office in Montreal, Canada.
Between its studios, DC Studios now employs over 40 people that provide
the capabilities of larger companies in a smaller, more reactive corporate
structure.
Ubi Soft Entertainment is a global producer, publisher and international
distributor of interactive entertainment products. As well as developing
original properties, Ubi Soft has also steadfastly partnered with
several high-profile companies and is dedicated to delivering consumers
with quality video game titles while offering blockbuster franchises.
Founded in 1986, the company has offices in 22 countries including
the United States, Canada, France, Germany and China and sells its
products in over 50 countries.
Based on the hugely successful Bratz dolls from MGA entertainment,
the new Bratz game developed by DC Studios for Ubi Soft Entertainment
with the Virtools development environment pick up where other dance
games leave off.
Challenge: : Develop a Licensed Game Within
5 Months While Maintaining High Quality Gameplay
DC
Studio already had significant experience in developing video games,
and in particular, developing licensed game titles, but with the Bratz
franchise - voted TOY FAIR's Toy-of-the-Year two years in a row –
development would have to be especially short so as not to miss this
potentially ephemeral trend. The Bratz video game needed
to be irreproachable in quality, gameplay and interactivity while
perfectly recreating the Bratz universe.
Solution: Dev’s User-Friendly, Cost-Efficient
Development Platform for Keeping Costs and Delays Under Control
DC
Studio’s team developed the complete dancing game in only 5
months. Virtools technology was used for the development of the PC
version due to its wide support of PC hardware and software.
Bratz was made by an in house team that included 8 graphic artists,
5 animators, 6 programmers, along with lead designers and project
managers.
