Formes d'Architectures: ARTE-tv.com's 3D Monument to Architecture  ARTE
and the Virtools Behavior LabARTE, the French-German public television station, offers a host of programs designed to explain scientific topics in straightforward language to audiences of all ages. As an extension of the channel's television programming, the website www.arte-tv.com expands on existing content and also produces its own in-depth special features and forums. After working with Virtools™ to create the Petites Boîtes à Expériences, ARTE-tv.com looked to the Virtools Behavior Lab to make another interactive real-time 3D application for their website. The Virtools Behavior Lab is our in-house development studio. Our team anticipates the needs of our clients and responds with consulting, training and innovative behavioral 3D applications. Challenge: Offer a Salient Online Counterpart to ARTE's Exceptional Documentaries 
The design was optimized to create an interactive system with simple
functionalities for excellent usability, along with flexibility for
enduring gameplay. Part tool, part playground: with a basic palette
of tools, users are able to experiment and build complex structures
in real-time.Virtools authoring platform made it possible to integrate camera functionalities and real-time shadow casting. Direct interaction with geometric 3D shapes was fine-tuned using Virtools Dev to make objects take on more "lifelike" qualities as they translate, rotate and "jump" on top of other shapes. Solution: An Interactive Playground for Architectural Exploration 
Interactivity is at the heart of Virtools software solutions. By putting
Virtools authoring tools to work, ARTE's interactive modules successfully
provide users with a fun and comprehensive educational experience.
Each module is divided into a linear EXPLANATION section with animated demonstrations that furnish valuable background information. The graphical quality and general flow of the application carry over into the EXPERIMENT section, which lets users put their newfound knowledge to work. Users interact directly with real-time 3D objects, making learning
more intuitive and immersive – two of the advantages inherent
in applications made with Virtools solutions. |

Virtools
software solutions made it possible for the 3-person team to produce
the design, graphics and scripting necessary to create the application
in just 17 man-days, for a total production time of 10 days. With
Virtools as the development hub, the tight production budget and
schedule were maintained.
